Before starting any treatment it's always good thing to know more about the procedure that you will be undergoing.

Procedure:-

Root canal Treatment is a procedure that is done to remove infected pulp from a tooth to eliminate the infection and to prevent tooth getting infected from future microbial invasion. It is best known as endodontic treatment. Sometimes this procedure can be done in single sitting or it may take multiple visits as well.

Various steps required for the procedure :

First your dentist will inject a local anaesthetic using nerve block injection technique. After this injection, you will feel numb near the injection site. It is done to make sure you will not feel any pain during the treatment.

The tooth that requires treatment needs to isolated to prevent contamination from saliva using Rubber dam application. It takes a little extra time to apply rubber dam.

Using dental burs and dental air-rotors, your dentist will then prepare access cavity opening to gain access to your pulp chamber and pulp canals. Good access opening is very important to have good visibility of the canal and easy access to pulp chamber. Using advanced "dental Loupes" also improves the visibility.

After gaining access to pulp chamber, pulp remanents are removed from pulp chamber. Then root canals are located & are irrigated using various medicated material such as Normal Saline & Sodium Hypochorite, EDTA and Chlorhexidine. Canals are shaped using Endomotors with rotary files. Handfiles are also used. Working length is determined using Apex locators and IOPA x-ray.

Root canals are filled with materials like Gutta percha along with a sealer after cleaning and shaping.

After filling the canals with gutta percha, remaining prepared tooth is filled with the restorative material.

After the above procedure, a tooth cap is placed over the treated tooth and tooth can now be used for normal function like eating and chewing.
